The new store is about experiencing rugs, not just buying them : Anupriya; co-owner of Saraswati Global Rugs
Doctor-turned-entrepreneur Anupriya, co-owner of Saraswati Global Rugs, launches first Mumbai store with the purpose-driven Niwala collection blending craft and giving back.
Saraswati Global Rugs which started in 1978 and has been co owned by Anupriya and Raj, recently opened their first ever store in Mumbai. Sharing her entrepreneur journey Anupriya, a doctor by profession, says,”My journey into rugs and design has been quite unconventional! As the second generation in our family business, I eventually stepped into this world and discovered a completely different side of myself. My medical background taught me discipline, empathy and attention to detail—qualities I now bring into the business.” She adds,”I never really planned to move from medicine into the rug business.
It happened quite organically. I grew up seeing the family business, but it was only when I became involved that I discovered how fascinating the world of rugs, design and craftsmanship is. What started as helping the family gradually became something I genuinely enjoyed and wanted to take forward in my own way.”
Talking about the usp of the new store and the Niwala Rug collection she says,”The new store is about experiencing rugs, not just buying them. With Niwala, we’ve tried to bring together beautiful contemporary design, Indian craftsmanship and, importantly, a sense of purpose. A percentage of the sales from every Niwala rug goes towards the Niwala kit, supporting food and essential needs for people who need it.”
